  • Indian External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna reciprocated by suggesting that the two nations do not see any contradiction in each other's rise and that both understand the importance of leveraging growth and development with mutual cooperation.

As in the past, economic ties ended up being the focus of the visit. The two sides have now set a target of $100 billion in trade expansion by 2015 from the present $60 billion.Wen had come to India with a group of around 300 Chinese executives; business deals worth about $16 billion were signed. But there was no progress on the regional trade agreement as India remains concerned about its growing trade deficit with China.

China did not concede to India on any major issue while India decided to play hardball on various issues of importance to China.Wen, for example, refused to acknowledge Indian concerns over China's issuance of stapled visas to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, the growing Chinese presence in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and anti-India terrorist groups operating from Pakistan.Unlike other major powers, China has refused to unambiguously demand that Pakistan shut down the terrorist infrastructure on its soil.

For its part, India this time refused to explicitly state that it recognizes the Tibet Autonomous Region as part of the Chinese territory.

There was little movement on a range of concerns that India had flagged before the visit.India had expressed concerns about Beijing damming rivers like the Brahmaputra as well as the nontariff trade barriers to Indian companies in China.India remains keen on gaining access to Chinese markets, especially in the area of pharmaceuticals, information technology and engineering goods.

Despite the lackluster nature of Wen's India trip, the newfound robustness in India's China policy in recent months is rather striking. After trying to push significant differences with China under the carpet for years, Indian decision-makers are being forced to grudgingly acknowledge that the relationship with China is becoming more contentious.

India has adopted a harder line on Tibet in recent weeks by making it clear to Beijing that it expects China to reciprocate on Jammu and Kashmir just as India has respected Chinese sensitivities on Tibet and Taiwan.

Ignoring pressures from Beijing, India decided to take part in the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony for Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in Oslo.Beijing had asked several countries, including India, to boycott the ceremony, describing the prize as open support for criminal activities in China.India was among the 44 states that did participate; Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq were among the nations that did not attend. There were rumors that Wen might cancel his India trip in response.

India's challenge is indeed formidable as it has not yet achieved the economic and political profile that China enjoys regionally and globally. But it gets increasingly bracketed with China as a rising power, emerging power or even a global superpower.India's main security concern is not the increasingly decrepit state of Pakistan but an ever more a*sertive China, which is widely viewed in India as having a better ability for strategic planning.

Indian policymakers, however, continue to believe that Beijing is not a short-term threat to India but needs to be watched over the long term even as Indian defense officials increasingly warn in rather blunt terms about the disparity between the two Asian powers.

India's naval chief has warned that India has neither "the capability nor the intention to match China force for force," while the former Indian air chief has suggested that China poses more of a threat to India than Pakistan.

It is certainly in the interest of both India and China to stabilize their relationship by seeking out issues on which their interests converge. But strategic problems do not necessarily make for satisfactory solutions merely because they are desirable and in the interest of all.

For a long time, India was not very important in China's foreign policy calculus, and there was a general perception that India could be easily pushed around.New Delhi's own actions also cemented a perception in China that it was easier to challenge Indian interests without incurring any cost.

New Delhi's latest robustness in its dealings with Beijing should, therefore, be welcomed insofar as it clarifies certain red lines that remain nonnegotiable.

  • Once upon a time, two ferries were taking pa*sengers to an Island called Green Land.First ferry was calle EB2 and the other ferry was Eb3.Both these ferries were jam packed with little or no room. But EB2 was in slightly better position with few spaces to spare.

These ferries were navigating at legendary slow speed because the crew and the drivers (read USCIS) were very slow. Also the fuel (read visa numbers) was not enough so now and then it needed to get some a*sitance from the base (read lawmakers).

The base has put out an option to move from one ferry to another. So the people in Eb3 ferry decided to swim to EB2.One who could not start cursing their fate and the ones in EB2 boat start screaming to prevent that happening.

Soon the pa*sengers forgot that the reason why the ferries are running slow and start blaming each other.

An old man on the shore sighed and said to himself, wouldn't it be nice if these people had concentratred their effort on the right place.

    Sunnysurya,

Thanks for giving me ear, and thought to my points.

Indians(myself included) were ruled by British for years, i never believed history that people can fight so much with each other that they forget to work together; now i know better.

We got to get togther and work with each other (add efforts), but sometimes we are working together but ironically against each other and net result is wasted effort.

Lets not waste energy by stopping people from actions even if we may not like their tools or techniques.Lets work more and get something done.

    Thanks SunnySurya.

This thread is very interesting to me.I've kind of lived though both sides, and it is really aweful for everyone but the abusive employer.

My understanding of Immigration Voice's agenda is that this group is really for people who have H1B visas and are in the country already to bring their spouses and children here with full rights to travel and work, make sure renewals of H1Bs happen so you can stay in the country, and, even better, to convert H1B visas to green cards.

My understanding is that the only reason that Immigration Voice supports increased H1B visa numbers is because people whose current visas are about to expire, and family members, are counted in these same numbers.

Please correct if I'm wrong.I really would like to get this right.

Anyway, if I do have it right, it seems to me that the AFL-CIO position (give people green cards instead of H1B visas) bridges the core concerns of members of Immigration Voice and the Programmers Guild.Whether or not everybody recognizes this is a different story, but it is good to know where the overlapping concern is, and hopefully in long term, get people talking about a solution that really does try to bridge the gap.

For the record, we are neutral on the issue of H1-B visa increases. We neither support nor oppose increasing H1-B visas. The last thing we want to see is even more gullible H1-B folks with GC mirages being added to our midst. However, it often happens that ANY reform to the EB program is clubbed together with H1-B increases ..thanks to corporate lobbying or whatever ..in such cases we obviously have to support the broad package of high skilled immigration reform.

We DO NOT deny the fact that H1-B has looph*les that make us vulnerable for exploitation ..that is one of our major reasons for pushing GC reforms. Our grouse with the likes of PG, lou dobbs etc is that they offer a one-sided criticism of the H1-B program full of half-truths, outright lies and insinuations about us "stealing" jobs. They highlight the exploitation part only to promote their agenda ..those occasional noises about giving GCs instead of H1-Bs is exactly that.Their real agenda is an end to all skilled immigration.Had they sincerely promoted balanced skilled immigration reform like tighter enforcement of H1-B provisions that protect US workers along with faster GC process for those meeting those tighter requirements, I would have gladly supported them.

I tried looking for the baltimore case but I don't have it on this computer. You might want to search for it on immigration.com.

That case had a lot more things in it.

    1) person never worked at the location as specified by the greencard labor
    2) person acknowledged he wasn't going to work there upon greencard approval
    3) person was claiming ac21 within same employer for different location

Administrative appeals office; concurred that ac21 wasn't specific to geographic location and didn't have to be done with another company; it could be done within same company.

Then AAO went another way and picked on some other issues: Other issues they picked on was information on his g-325a and his work locations. They picked onthat he didn't have h-1b's approved for those particular locations or LCA's and he was out of status.he was good on the ac21 but was out of status prior to filing 485.

So when they started picking on these other things, do you know what eventually ended up happening - denial/approval?

I tried looking on immigration.com, a lot of hits came up when i searched for "baltimore AC21" but none of them were this particular case.

Aren't there many consulting scenarios where the labor is filed in a certain state but the employee (although worked for the same employer) worked in another location on H-1B (with due LCA amendments of course). Is that not acceptable from a GC perspective?

sorry, I don't mean to drag this topic on forever.

    thanks,

Obama might be the only person who is still sane and might want to end the war, save the country 10b per month. This might have its own positive effects as there would be more money to spend on economic development in the US, which in turn might mean slowly improving economy and better jobs. All of these might translate into optimism in the country and lesser opposition to EB immigrants in general.Agreed that Durbin might try to derail the EB process by the introduction of new skills based program and what not...but highly doubt that it would be applicable retro-actively and affect ppl already in the queue. And for new EB applicants, they would know what they are getting into, if such a points based system is introduced, and hell, might work for quite a few of the new EB applicants...

Mccain, on the other hand, seems to so over-confident and as arrogant as his predecessor that he he failed to mention, even once, that the war needs to end.(as evidenced by yday's debate at Ole Miss). He is still talking about 'strategies and tactics of war and differences between them' in the debate when the nation is reeling under the most severe economic crisis...the point is that this guy doesnt seem to be the person that will be of any help either to the country or the EB immigrants like us.He is nothing but an extension of the Bush Government and i hope that he doesnt become the President (not that he has great chances either)

Anyway, whoever becomes the President, as someone put it .."Its the Congress, stupid!!' The congress would still need to act on any legislation. And the way the things are working since 2005, election year or not, it seems to be a very uphill task to get anything pa*sed, be it for illegal or legal immigrants. The anti-immigrants force seems to be so strong that it seems almost impossible for anything to be pa*sed for any kind of immigration..so, i believe the status-quo would continue even after the new President takes over..

Well, that leaves us, poor EB immigrants, as usual at the mercy of USCIS...if we are lucky enough, we will still be emloyed when our visa number becomes available...(Remember that Seinfeld episode when the Seinfeld party finally gets the table at the Chinese Restaurant, but they are long gone..!!!)

U should look more at Pre-forclosure ( if u can get hold of one) than the foreclosed properties. Most of forclosed properties need substantial investment to fix them.Generally public gets the last chance of good foreclosed properties. It is a bank- real estate nexus which eats up the good inventory before hitting into the market.US home auction is not a real auction but more like a open house for 100 properties at the same time.Quality of inventory is not worth it.

Excellent point. If you friends with real estate investor, they might get you a deal. Its the same thing like used car sales. If you know the guy who does car auctions all the time you will get a nice car for real cheap.Same thing with houses too.Start looking for a good real estate investor. These people might charge some money for

    1.finding a good deal
    2.going thru auction/shortsale/whatever
    3.fixup the house
    4.help in financing
    5.their profit

giving that money is worth the ha*sle.

The most difficult part finding this person.

i agree that organized religions were created by man, but I am talking about faith.God did not come to create religion but a way to salvation.the main message of the bible is forgiveness, and the sacrifice that God made in order to save mankind.the person the bible portrays is the man who wanted to sacrifice his life for all of us.history proves that to be true.I don't think any king would want to change that message.
God hates evil, and both God and evil cannot exist together.Man is doomed to eternal death because of sin.but God loved us that none of us should perish, and that's how he gave us a way to escape death (not mortal).that is through the great sacrifice He made for mankind.

    Book of Romans 5:8
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Look, your intensions may be good and I respect that, but one cannot solve one problem by creating another problem of equal magnitude.

Isn't "religion" the reason why folks are fighting?I do not mean to offend anyone, but I think all religious books have been doctored by the kings who were in power during the last two centuries.Bible, Geeta, Quran, or for that matter any religious book of any organized religion - they are all doctored from its original version. Why?Because the purpose of these books is?Guess what?To oragnize the religion.Their primary purpose is not spirituality.Because if the sole purpose was spirituality, no one will have fought each other in the name of religion for thousands of years.

I guess the question I would ask is - WWJD ie.What Would Jesus Do?If you asked Jesus that are you the only son of god, WWJD?I can tell you with 100% surety that he will say - we are all sons and daughters of God.But con artists have doctored the holy book to suit their meaning and interpretation.Anyways, I do not mean to have a philisophical debate here with you being the "protector" of Jesus, why?Because Jesus or Allah or for that matter any great soul doesn't need any protection from anyone.Just as a cartoon cannot damage Allah, any discussion about any faith cannot damage the GOD.But too often we want to be seen as if "God is on MY side" because I follow CORRECT religion, and everyone else is against my team of "ME & GOD".And thats just the most absurd thing mankind could come up with in the form of organized religion. But the truth is, thats the most common view most humans take, everyone is protecting their "GOD", which actually sounds like a joke.Does god need any protection???I mean give me a break.

Please don't bring one flawed system to replace another flawed system.
